Dear Friends,

This is a fund update from my March 22nd newsletter. In that newsletter I shared with you a letter that I wrote for a friend (a copy is below my signature). This is what I said to you in March:

On another note, a friend of mine asked me to write a letter in response to her request for funds being denied due to the titles of books in her school library. The organization that denied the funds identifies as a Christian foundation. Neither of us expects that the letter will lead the organization to change their minds about the grant. But my friend knew that she would receive a more inclusive message from me. I am sharing it below.

On Monday my friend called to ask if I remember the letter. “Of course!” I responded. Well, amazingly, the people who read the letter took it to heart and changed their minds. She will receive the grant for her cross-country program this year. What wonderful news.

In my sermon on Sunday, I mentioned that it is important to speak up, even if you don’t think anything will change. Because in speaking up, people, like my friend, have the opportunity hear a different message about God’s love and care for the world. In this case, something did change!

See you this weekend.

Peace,

Pastor Nancy
